He’s seen it all and been it through but at sixty-five Sir Alex Ferguson continues to be involved with the game with the same child like energy and enthusiasm that has almost been a characteristic of him for the past two decades of his manager career. At an age that is considered to be the age to call it quits, the Glaswegian seems far from finished with soccer in general and Manchester United in particular. And Man U gave a stunning second half display on his birthday eve to present him almost the perfect birthday gift.

It hasn’t been over nothing that Sir Alex has found his hair grey as the United boss, he predicted at the beginning of this month that if he was to go in to the New Year with a sizable lead that should go a long way into deciding the Premiership. Christiano Ronaldo scored a brace to add to Ole Gunnar Solkjear’s first half goal to take United six points clear at the top after Chelsea dropped points for the second game in a row as they continue to struggle at the back, a point clearly evident by the fact that they’ve conceded six goals in the past three games. Though the sorry state of affairs is not one bit meant to take away neither the stellar performance of United nor the astute leadership of Fergi… one has to agree that Sir Alex seems to have got the better of Chelsea boss even in the battle of sound bites.

In days where Premiership clubs change managers thrice in a season having being at the top for two decades is in itself a legendary achievement. The Hallmark of what can easily described as one of the best spells for the club Sir Alex has been able to raise the club, the game and the passion above individuals… he’s played the game the way it should be and has played to win. There have never been any free berths in his squad, no favorites, he’s played the game with a vision and the vision was of a team… he’s made ordinary players into world class performers and yet he doesn’t tolerate anyone getting too big to become bigger than the game… Sir Alex Ferguson is not legend because he has a great mind… he’s one as at the heart of it he is a very simple soccer lover and he plays soccer to win. Happy Birthday Sir Alex Ferguson.
