It’s that time of the season again when the clubs in Europe are again in a frantic chase for players, the gossip columns work over time as to who is going where and who is quoting what price. And just as ever come January there could be a major buy-sell of players all across Europe. Manchester United is still gunning for the perpetual target Own Hargreaves. But this time it looks like the English mid-fielder’s German employees are willing to bite the bullet. Bayern have reportedly agreed to sell the mid-fielder for nothing less than 20 million pounds. And given that Owen is injured for the moment and also club-tied for the Champions League I am not too sure if United would be willing to cough up that sum.

Of course we cannot over look the fact that Owen has been Sir Alex’s long time acquisition plan and that Owen himself has been more than willing to make the switch back to England particularly to Manchester United. Meanwhile, United Boss Sir Alex Ferguson has indicated that he is actually looking for a double acquisition. Apart from Hargreaves, Gareth Bale and Charlton striker Darren Bent have also been linked with a possible move to Old Trafford.

Elsewhere, West Ham with new Icelandic boss could also be other active members in the transfer market but big spending London club Chelsea haven’t made much of a noise thus far. Chelsea has been struggling at the back but hasn’t really made any move to acquire anyone as such. Wigan has already made three signings in the window and Reading has given new contracts to Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt. The transfer market is still getting heated up so expect more from the big clubs from other parts of Europe to soon join the melee. A small reminder in the end that Man U have squashed Real Madrid’s plans to buy Christiano Ronaldo by asking for a staggering 70 million ponds… now we had expected Sir Alex to do that didn’t we…
