Looks like finally we’ll see some sanity being restored to the Bridge after all the mud-slinging it’s finally some good news for the Chelsea fans. After being in news for all the wrong reasons in the past few weeks Andriy Schevchenko made his feet do the talking on Tuesday night as he struck twice in Chelsea’s 4-0 win against second division side Wycombe. Scheva has been at the centre of the controversy that has surrounded Stamford Bridge in the recent past. Coach Jose Mourinho was reportedly not on talking terms with Chelsea owner Roman Abromovich and one of the heated points of conflict was the multi-million former AC Milan striker. Andriy has been turning up some really dreadful performances according to his standards prompting Jose to bench him most of the time.
And he was again on the bench and made an appearance with about a quarter of an hour left and the game pretty much Liverpool’s taking. But he came back to the starting eleven and made sure this time he took his chances and came close to scoring in the very first minutes as he headed narrowly wide of the near post. Apart from finding the back of the net twice, he also set up one for Frank Lampard who himself scored a brace for his side.
The goals aside what was heartening to see was the standing ovation to which he came of with six minutes left on the clock and the wholesome praise he received from his coach. Jose said that Andriy gave him much more than he had expected of his striker and that he was happy with his attitude too. And that should surely shut a few of the gossip mongers. Finally a match convincingly in Chelsea’s pocket and more heartening was the convincing performance of the one-time-most-dreaded-striker in Europe. Hope he sticks to his guns… cos that should make it for a real thrilling finish to the season. Hang the gossip mongers for now and let the soccer do the talking now.
