Chelsea scored its second consecutive and more importantly comprehensive win in the fourth round FA cup tie against Nottingham Forest. Three fist half goals courtesy Andriy Shevchenko, Didier Drogba and Mikel Jon Obi were enough to send the London club into the fifth round of the Cup. This is Chelsea’s second win after they beat Wycombe in the second leg of the Carling Cup semi final tie 4-0. Andriy Shevchenko was again on the score sheet after his brace mid week but this time it was courtesy of huge deflection off the Forest defender and in all fairness they Forest side could have counted themselves unlucky.
But there was nothing unlucky about Drogba’s strike as he curled in a free kick from twenty five yards. And in the dying minutes of the first half Forest found themselves further behind as Mikel Jon Obi poked in his second ever for Chelsea to almost seal the match for the Blues as the teams headed in for the half time.
There was more good news for the Londoners as influential captain John Terry is expected to make a return to the team sheet for this week’s fixture against Charlton Athletic as Premiership action return this week. Also manager Jose Mourinho has made it clear that he is not going anywhere at the end of the season and is fully motivated to see his contract out which runs until 2010. He also refuted rumors that he was not on talking terms with Chelsea owner Roman Abromovich saying that he does indeed talk to him but yes there was a difference.
Jose said that he would not be signing any new players in the January transfer window and is quite happy to welcome two of his ‘untouchables’ John Terry and Peter Cech. This seems to be a compromise on Jose’s part and one that stands only to benefit the club that has been plagued with plenty of dirty talk in the past few weeks. The Portuguese also sounded a warning to the rivals saying that the squad was very much focused on the job at hand and nothing would deter him or his players from what was expected of him.
