The Swiss team secured the biggest upset witnessed in the FIFA World Cup so far with their surprise victory over the mighty Spanish team. Spain lost their debut game in the World Cup against Switzerland with a 1-0 loss.

The most unlikely and surprise victory was a complete spellbound. Switzerland have beaten Spain for the first time in 19 matches which sparked public celebrations. The Swiss took to the streets to celebrate the victory. They have not seen a victory in the World Cup since 1990. Now, they have advanced to the second round of the World Cup.
Spain had won all the 10 matches in the Qualifying matches. Also, they won the friendly matches before the World Cup. The soccer match was held in Durban, South Africa. Spain’s tremendous squad strength was shown by the bench: Victor Valdes, Juan Mata, Raul Albiol, Cesc Fabregas and the mighty Fernando Torres all started from the bench for this match. Spain had the ball possession for most of the time and dominated right from the begining but they were unable to finish.

Fernandes Torres attempted a shot to take the lead 1-0 in the 52nd minute of the game. But it was beautifully stopped by Swiss centre-back, Gerard Pique. Torres still made a second attempt for a goal from close range. The act was incredible.

Gelson Fernandes, Swiss midfielder, scored the winning goal in the early second half of the match. The Spaniards fought valiantly to equalize after the Swiss scored, but their attempts were foiled by the Swiss team’s superior defensive strategy.
Spain can still put this embarrassing upset behind and move ahead to surprise their football fans world wide, as they have a technical superiority.
