Serbia secured their first win since the 1962 FIFA World Cup against the mighty rival, Germany in the quarter finals. They met for the 7th time in the World Cup. Both the teams fought a fierce battle on the grounds of Nelson Mandela Bay stadium, South Africa. Serbia had earlier lost to Ghana 0-1 in the opening match and were keenly waiting for the moment to bounce back. And they did that in grand style! The win was not entirely that decisive but the Serbian team were completely satisfied with the way that they played against Germany.

The most impressive team in the first round of matches was undoubtedly Germany; they even outshone their coach’s expectations. Podolski and Klose woke from the dead. The young German footballers, Badstuber, Marin, Muller and Ozil were very precocious. But once Miroslav Klose was shown the red card by the referee and sent off the field, the German team toppled down in spirits.
Milan Jovanovic, Serbian player, scored the winning goal only one minute after Klose’s sad dismissal. Jovanovic’s goal was not one of the most beautiful shots but it accomplished their win against Germany. The goal happened in the 38th minute of the first half.

Serbain player, Krasic raced down the right flank and took a dangerous shot in the far post. Fellow Serbian player, Zigic took a head shot and passed the ball to Jovanovic, who side-footed the ball into the net. The German defense was in a complete diasarray. There were several opportunities for Germany to score a goal but the Serbian goalkeeper did a wonderful job. He guarded his goalpost like an impenetrable fortress. Congratulations Serbia!
