The spectacular match between Argentina and Greece kicked off yesterday night at Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane. The mighty South American team defeated Greece 2-0 in Group B. With their stupendous victory, Argentina have now qualified for the the next round, Round 16. Also, they are leading the 2010 FIFA World Cup with 9 goals, the highest number of goals scored by any team in the event. Argentina’s veteran striker, Martin Palermo and Martin Demichelis scored one goal each in the second half of the match and helped their team win over Greece.
Now, Argentina will play the first match of the next round, Round 16 , against Mexico. But on a sad note, Greece has been eliminated from the World Cup following their loss to the mighty one, Argentina.
Martin Demichelis scored a short-range goal in the 77th minute of the match. His header bounced off of a teammate. But luckily, the ball bounced back towards his feet. And he scored the first goal of the match!

Martin Palmero, Argentina’s striker, scored a second goal just 12 minutes after Demichelis’s successful attempt. Greece’s goalkeeper, Alexandros Tzorvas sucessfully staved off the first shot by Palmero but the rebound was converted by Palmero. Both the defenses played magnificently in the first half of the match. The first attempt to score a goal didn’t happen until the 18th minute. Argentinian player, Sergio Aguero made the effort.
Both the teams played with unbeatable spirit, but it was clearly evident that Greece was getting desperate to score a goal against the football giants, Argentina. On a surprising note, Maradona made several changes in the Argentinian lineup, even after they won against South Korea earlier by 4-1.
One of the changes included Messi to wear the captain’s armband for the first time in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He became the youngest Argentinian player to recieve the captaincy. Afterwards, Messi told that it was a very special moment for him. He felt that he received constant support from his teammates. Also, it was a beautiful experience for him.
