There’s no stopping this guy called Tiger Woods and on Sunday at the final round of the Buick Invitational at San Diego he announced his arrival on the 2007 PGA winning by two strokes after being seven adrift of the lead at the half way mark. In the final round he was two strokes off the lead but a solid start with three birdies and an eagle on the ninth hole put him in contention for the title that he had previously won in 2005 and 2006. this takes Woods’ tally of consecutive wins on the tour to seven moving him into second place behind Byron Nelson for the most consecutive wins on the PGA Tour, Bryon has 11 to his name. Charles Howell III finished 13 under to take the runners-up spot while over night leader Brandt Snedeker finished another stroke behind him.

Apart from being his third consecutive Buick win this is Woods’ fifth title at the championships so far. He was pretty much his familiar modest self admitting that when the day began all of the leading competitors had a chance but he did well enough to hang in there and fire a final round 6 under 66 to the pole position. As mentioned above this is Woods’ seventh straight win on the tour though he has had a few disappointments in the form of Ryder Cup and World Match Play Championships interrupting his winning streak. Nevertheless this should be a warning enough to his rivals that it could be another Tiger chase for them on the tour.

Professionally it might have been a great year for golfer Tiger Woods but personally he saw much turmoil and heartache. The champion golfer lost his dad who was also his mentor and good friend. But looks like that as he looks forward to the year 2007 there are much better things in store for him. Woods has revealed that he is all set become a proud father this summer and this would be a whole new chapter in the superstars career.

The American himself admits that the birth of the child could go a long way in erasing the painful memories of last year but is quick to add how he wished his father would have been there to cherish the moment with them. Woods has decided to stick close to home for a few more weeks and would not be participating in the season opening Mercedes-Benz championships. No doubt the game would miss him but I am sure he can afford himself that luxury… I am so happy for you Tiger…

For all the hurt and pain of losing your beloved father, is someone can rightly claim that 2006 was his, then it certainly has to be the almost-invincible Tiger Woods. And it is the cruel hand of fate that one of his most successful years on tour has to be the one in which he lost his father, friend, philosopher, guide and mentor all in the same breath. Hitting the lowest part of both his personal and professional life Woods was to bow out of the US Open without making the cut, first time in almost never.

But then, if you expect someone to roar back who else but the tiger himself, mauling his way through the pack of his peers Tiger won six in a row including two majors. Almost every record of his has the precursor as – first or most… if the stats and numbers say one side of the story then almost invisible on the score sheets is the hunger, intensity and tenacity of the Tiger. So just put the numbers aside and look at the ferocious tiger behind his cool demeanor and you know that the Tiger is far from finished in his hunt.
