Which ever way the teams go at the Super Bowl this February in Miami one thing is for sure that the game has already created history and plenty is expected to be made at the XLI Super Bowl showdown in Miami come Feb 4th. Leading the two teams for the first time in the history of Super Bowl’s would be two colored coaches of Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts and they would match their wits to be come the first colored coach to lift the Super Bowl trophy.

Chicago defeated New Orleans 39-14 to win the NFC title which made their coach Lovie Smith to become the first Black Coach to lead his team into the Super Bowl. And it looked like that the forty-first Super Bowl is set for more history when the colts won the AFC crown and made sure that Smith’s good friend Tony Dungy would present enough of a challenge to Smith before the first African-American coach lifts the Super Bowl trophy.

Both coaches expressed their satisfaction having come thus far but were cautious enough knowing pretty well that the final step is the hardest and the one that matters most. Smith is leading the Bears back into the Super Bowl after a gap of twenty one years sure enough it a long time. Smith having qualified first hoped that Dungy could also make it but now that he has he would do everything possible and make sure that the later does not walk away with the Vince Lombardi trophy. Amidst all the racial slur on British TV looks like Americans are better off than the Brits.

Come Saturday and starts the tumble-rumble ride of the NFL playoffs… but as the play offs kick off the one word that’s going around the town is that there is no clear favorite to make to the Super Bowl 2007 in Miami. That doesn’t mean that none of the teams are worth the spot in the Super Bowl… its just that the competition is so tough and the competitors so closely matched that its too hard or rather too unfair to take a call on one.

Saturday would be the first day of this years play offs and there are plenty of contenders looking to make a mark for themselves straight away. But more than making a mark and making headlines the teams would be looking forward to making a decent and winning start to the play-offs campaign on a winning note. So as the action heats up to make it to the Super Bowl in Miami on Feb 07 make sure you come back here for all the action and all my views…

Even as the police continue their investigation Denver Bronchos have announced that they will go ahead honor their slain player Darrent Williams. There would be a memorial service in the honor of the player who lost his life a couple of days in a drive-by shoot out case. It is reported that the killing could be a fall-out of an argument that Darrent had at the nightclub that he left afterwards. And as fate would have it the limo that Darrent and his pals were sitting in was sprayed with bullets indiscriminately which resulted in his death.

The twenty-year old was into his second season as a Football player and the incident took place just hours after the Broncos’ hopes of reaching the play-offs was dashed by their loss to San Antonio in the final game of their regular season. It is also reported that the player wasn’t under the influence of alcohol when the incidence took place; in fact he was reported to have been thinking of no booze on New Year’s Eve. Too sad that such a thing should happen to anyone, let alone a promising young football player…

Atlanta Falcons head coach Jim Mora paid the price for being unable to guide the team past the regular season for the second consecutive year. Though Jim has a not-all-that-bad record at the head of Falcons, but his inability to take the side into the play offs has turned out to be his undoing. For the record he steered the Atlanta side to the 2004 NFC Championship game.

The heads continued to tumble even elsewhere as Arizona also decided to immediately sack Coach Dennis Green after another disappointing 5-11 season. Dennis has been with the Cardinals for the past three seasons but hasn’t had much to speak about and thus had the door shut on him with a year still left on his contract.

Christmas day gifts don’t come any better than this, well surely that’s what the Philadelphia Eagles must have thought when Dallas handed them an easy win on Christmas day sealing a play-off spot for the eagles. Veteran quarter back Jeff Garcia led the way with two long touch downs, including one 89-yard touchdown dive to blank out the cowboys 7-0 in the first quarter.

Dallas never quite got going; the closest they came to the Eagles was when they reduced the deficit to three points. Though all is not lost for the cowboys but certainly a dispirited performance as they put against the eagles at home will surely see them bowing out much earlier than they would like to.
